Free Betsy Ross Hat Pincushion Crochet Pattern

Materials
1 oz white worsted weight yarn
Size H crochet hook
Small amount fiberfill stuffing

Size: 1 1/2" tall
Gauge: 2 rounds of dc=1"

Note: Weave in ends as work progresses.

Rnd 1: Make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before (24 dc).
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before (24 dc).
Rnd 4: (Work this round in back loops only!). Dc dec over 1st 2 dc, * dc dec over next 2 dc, rep from * around, join as before, fasten off, leaving a 12" length of yarn for sewing (12 dc).

Ruffle
Join yarn w sl st in any free front loop between Rnds 3 and 4, ch 3, 5 dc in same loop, 6 dc in next loop and in each loop around, join as before, fasten off (144 dc).

Stuff hat. Close hole by weaving sts around bottom of Rnd 4, pull and secure.

Broomstick Lace

I'd like to do a broomstick lace square as our square of the month starting this week. If you have old broomsticks at home or extra large knitting needles the group could use them.

Make Your Own Blocking Board

I came across this great site for making your own blocking board. I made one for myself, and plan to show the group on Thursday night how to make one. This will only be a demonstration, as I won't have the materials for each person. I will only be making one small one. I will hand out the instructions and those who attend will be able to get the materials and make one at home.

Last night was our first time meeting on Thursday evening. This will be our new meeting time and it worked out well for everyone. We had a lot of fun working on our squares, and the square we are working on is the "Trinity Stitch". We also looked at different patterns of interest and discussed plans to work on bookworm bookmarks for the community.

Crochet Tawashi

We have been busy in our group in the past few weeks working on our squares. This week we took a break to work on Japanese Crochet Tawashi's. Tawashi's are little scrubbers that are crocheted in acrylic yarn and are all the trend now in Japanese crochet. I have posted the link here for the site where I found the pattern.

Bookworm Bookmarks

We are working on "Bookworm Bookmarks" and will be giving them out at the library. Stop by and find one in your favorite color.
This is the pattern:
Size H Crochet hook or change the hook size if you want a bookworm in a different size.
Small plastic wiggly eyes
glue
4-ply worsted weight acrylic or wool yarns
Chain 76; 3 sc in next 22 chains; slip st in next chain; cut yarn leaving a long end; weave through a few stitches at bottom of worm cut yarn to hide where not seen. You can make chain longer or shorter. Also, you can make the worm with more sc's if you want to. For a different look, slip stitch or sc down ch to bottom of chain and tie a tassel on with the end ties.
Make a tassel by wrapping yarn 20 times around 4 fingers of left hand or vice-versa if left-handed. Cut yarn and tie to bottom of chain. Pull taunt and then cut yarn. Tie a bow around top of tassel a little bit down, then double tie so bow does not slip open. You can also add a charm when doing the double tie. Trim tassel even. Glue on eyes.
